At Eagle Valley Family Dentistry, we are proud to be the first in the Bellefonte area to offer virtual consultations, also known as “teledentistry”. You may be asking, “What can you really accomplish during a virtual appointment?” Well, you may be surprised by our answer!
About Teledentistry
While teledentistry may be getting more attention recently, it’s actually been around for a while. The United States Department of Defense actually skyrocketed the use of teledentistry back in 1994 as a way to increase access to dental care.
From there, the growth has been substantial. In states like Alaska, teledentistry has been used to help patients in rural areas save time, money, and has even decreased the number of emergency room visits!
Simply defined, teledentistry allows us to use videoconference technology and phone calls to communicate with you if it’s for a consultation, emergency, or in follow-up to a procedure. It’s truly transforming the way we can help provide you the care you need.
According to the American Teledentistry Association, research shows that patients who participated in virtual appointments received the same quality of care as those who didn’t use virtual appointments. So we’re excited to bring the same quality care conveniently to you right in your home.

Assessments
If you have questions or are having any issues, we can conveniently conduct an assessment through teledentistry. If we already have records or if you can send us photos and videos, we can virtually sit together and provide you an assessment. We’d also be happy to provide any second opinions if you’re new to Eagle Valley Family Dentistry!
Follow-Up Appointments
Teledentistry provides a convenient way for us to check on you after certain procedures. We can ask you questions and you can provide us any updates or changes.
Prescriptions
If we wrote a prescription for you, we can easily have it refilled through a virtual appointment. No need to rearrange your schedule to come to our office!
Treatments
We’ll actually be able to provide treatment options for some dental issues, such as gum inflammation, pain, and much more. Or if you’re not sure if your issue means scheduling an appointment or going to the emergency room, scheduling a quick virtual appointment with us can point you in the right direction.
Many studies show that when patients utilize teledentistry, it significantly reduces health emergencies and related dental problems. All virtual consultations are private, secure, and compliant with HIPAA regulations.

After your virtual appointment, you’ll receive any instructions for scheduling follow up appointments or procedures.
